HELP: How to use Australia's Local Search
Here's a few tips for you that will make your searches faster and more rewarding.

All modern browsers have javascripts turned on by default and if yours is off you should turn it on. While the site should be OK with older versions of browsers you are encouraged to update your browser to the latest versions of either Micorsoft's Internet Explorer, Netscape's Navigator or the New safe and secure Mozilla Firefox. You can download the latest versions from these links.

aussieLOCAL is not a search engine ....... it's a directory. A search engine looks for websites using web crawlers or robots. When a website is found it is indexed in the database based on what the robot finds in the files of the site. That's why you get alot of returns from a search engne that aren't relevant to your search. Our directory and classifieds on the other hand require that people (all our members) not robots enter the data into the database and businesses and classified advertisers don't need a website to be listed. If your business isn't in the directory it's because you haven't listed it. Register now and get it in. It's FREE and it's easy.

aussieLOCAL has been designed to use as though it were infact a book.

  1. Select your book - State book, State + Region book, State + District book or State + Town/suburb book. Click the "Get Categories/Classifications" button.
  2. In the directory - choose your book (Region, District or Postcode).
  3. Using the Auto Select, begin to type a word. Watching the list box below check the categories. Auto Select will sort more than 2000 categories for you. when you find a category that will suit your search click "Get My Selection". Click "Change My Selection" to return to the previous page and make edits to your selected zone and/or category.
  4. In the classifieds just select your book (Region, District or Postcode) and go to the next page.
  5. At this point you have really only selected the State book and you are now presented with the minor books and classifications. Select the area and classification, click "Get My Selection". Click "Change My Selection" to return to the previous page and make edits to your selected book and/or category.
    • The State book will return every business/classified in the chosen category. Possibly thousands.
    • The Region book will return less than the State book but in some Regions could still be substantial.
    • The District book (and the default) closely matches your Local Government area. Less but specific to your local area.
    • The Town/Suburb book is very specific with less or sometimes no returns. You might use this if you are looking for the local plumber, lawn mowing guy or if someone is selling something you are after in your Town/Suburb. If you are searching at this level, depending on your connection speed it might take a moment or two to list the several thousand localities in your State.
That's pretty much it to find a local business or classified. Help info on including your business or placing a classified is available in the Member's area. Register here.
